This Little Piggy

This Little Piggy Had Roast Beef
149 1st Avenue
New York, NY 10003
(212) 253-1500

I have to imagine that the origins of the restaurant name are from the childhood nursery rhyme that counted toes and tickled babies' feet. If you're unfamiliar with what I'm talking about it:

This little piggy went to market,
This little piggy stayed home,
This little piggy had roast beef,
This little piggy had none.
And this little piggy went wee wee wee, all the way home.

Ring a bell?

In any case, a hefty meal here at this hole in the wall on 1st Avenue will surely tickle your belly and maybe even put you to sleep after. Hah. It's like the feeling a baby gets after being breast fed. All it wants to do is be burped and put to sleep due to pure satisfaction and comfort.

You can literally have "This," "That," or "The Other" things and I'm sure they're all delicious. But me, I wanted "Something Else." And that would be roast beef on an Italian hero with Cheez Whiz, mozzarella cheese, gravy, au jus, and hand cut fries!

I think the combination is a little on the heavy side, but so worth every calorie. The crunch of the bread against the moistness of the roast beef with au jus and melted cheese is the perfect match. It's almost sweet and savory with the au jus that has all the sweetness of the beef and the salt of the cheese.

It's almost like getting a Fat Sandwich at RU Hungry, the Rutgers University grease trucks, but with less options. But in this case, less is more!

Primarily a carry-out establishment, there is little room to eat inside the restaurant but a short countertop along the front window. But it's certainly well worth it to stand so you can enjoy your meal hot and fresh.

Give it a try! I'm sure you'll have the roast beef and go wee wee wee all the way home in joy!
